  • MARY BRIDGMAN: AMERICAN CONTEMPORARY

    Bridgman was born in Waterville, Maine, and now resides in the Hudson Valley. She maintains a Painting Studio at Umbra Suites in Newburgh, NY.

    Her work draws on a wide range of cultural influences from renaissance art to modern approaches to drawing and painting. Mary has a body of work that includes abstract, more traditional portrait painting and minimalistic drawings.

    Bridgman received a degree from Connecticut College in Studio Art before attending the Parsons School of Design in NYC to study fashion design. She continued her art studies at the School of Visual Arts, the Art Students League, and the New York Academy of Art, while working as a fashion designer.

    Bridgman is currently working in oil exploring cultural iconography involving fashion, art, gender, class, and social issues in contemporary life as well as exploring the enduring power of humans in art history. She is both representational and abstract utilizing traditional techniques in a modern context to communicate the artist's vision through both a personal and public lens.
